The Derry Area School District recognizes that a child's education is a responsibility shared by the school and parents.  In order to effectively educate all students, the school and parents must work together as knowledgeable partners.

The Derry Area School District defines parent and family involvement as an on-going process that assists parents and families to meet their obligation as their child's first educator, promote clear two-way dialogue between home and school, and support them as leaders and decision makers at all levels concerning the education of their children.

To this end, the Derry Area Title I Schoolwide Program has instituted a Title I Parent Advisory Council that meets twice a year.  This council consists of parents, teachers, school administrators, school-related volunteers, and community members.  The purpose of this council is to assist the district's Title I staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Grandview Elementary School's schoolwide plan.
